Cookie Policy

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They're widely used to make sites work, to remember your preferences, and to give site owners information about how their site is being used.

We also use similar technologies such as pixels and local storage. Where we refer to cookies in this policy, we mean these too.

How we use cookies

We group the cookies on our site into three categories.

Strictly necessary

These are needed for the website to function and to keep it secure. They can't be switched off. They include cookies that protect our contact forms against automated abuse, cookies that help our hosting provider serve pages efficiently, and cookies set when a member of our team logs in to manage the site.

We do not need your consent for these, but we tell you about them here.

Analytics

These help us understand how visitors use our site — which pages are viewed, how people arrive, and where they run into difficulty. We use this to improve the site.

We use two analytics services:

  • Google Analytics, provided by Google, which tells us how many people visit, which pages they view, and how they found us.
  • Microsoft Clarity, provided by Microsoft, which records how visitors interact with pages — mouse movement, scrolling, clicks — and produces heatmaps and session recordings. This helps us see where a page is confusing or difficult to use.

Clarity's recordings are configured to mask what you type. We do not use it to read the contents of our enquiry form.

We only set these cookies if you agree.

Marketing

These are used to measure the effectiveness of our advertising and, in some cases, to show you our advertising on other websites. They may be set by third parties, including Google and Microsoft, who may use the information for their own purposes as well as ours.

We only set these cookies if you agree.

The cookies we use

* Google sets _ga and _ga_<container-id> with a two-year expiry, but most browsers now cap first-party cookies at around 400 days, and Safari at seven days.

Session recording

Microsoft Clarity records how visitors move around our pages — where the cursor goes, what gets clicked, how far down a page someone scrolls. These recordings are played back as anonymous sessions and are used to improve the design of the site.

Clarity is configured to mask text input by default, so what you type into our enquiry form is not captured. We do not use these recordings to identify individual visitors.

If you would prefer not to be recorded, decline analytics cookies and no recording will take place.

Where this information goes

Google and Microsoft are based in the United States, and information collected through these cookies may be transferred outside the UK. Both companies apply safeguards recognised under UK data protection law for these transfers.

You can read more about how each uses the information they collect:

  • Google Privacy Policy — policies.google.com/privacy
  • Microsoft Privacy Statement — privacy.microsoft.com

Managing your cookies

When you first visit our site, you'll be asked which cookies you're happy for us to use. You can change your choice at any time by.

You can also control cookies through your browser. Most browsers let you see what cookies are stored, block them, or delete them. Bear in mind that blocking all cookies may stop parts of our site working properly.

Instructions for common browsers:

  • Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
  • Safari — Settings → Safari → Privacy & Security
  • Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security
  • Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions

For more general guidance on cookies and your rights, the Information Commissioner's Office publishes information at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the cookies we use change. Any updates will be posted here with a revised date at the top.
